Top Five World Destinations For Kids

Posted on April 28 2017

Summer is just around the corner, so if you’ve not planned a family getaway yet, now is the time to start thinking about where you’re going to whisk your family off to. But with so many amazing countries to choose from, and of course young children to think about, it can be difficult to pinpoint a place where you’re going to all enjoy and where everyone is going to be safe.

Luckily for you however we’ve documented the top five destinations around the world for children.

Puglia, Italy

Puglia, Italy

Located in the heel to Italy’s boot, Puglia is the perfect choice for a family getaway. The area boasts numerous pristine beaches, quaint towns ideal for exploring, friendly locals and an open countryside the whole family will love. The weather in Puglia is relatively consistent, so anytime from April to September will almost guarantee you sun, but the peak times are very hot, with some days seeing the mercury rise to 30°C. But with a flight of less than three hours, you’ll soon find yourself exploring the rustic charm of the area.

Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo, Japan

Japan is one of the most kid-friendly places in the world. Full to the brim with child-friendly activities, there’s more to do than many think. Just walking around the bright, tech-heavy city will leave children and adults inspired, but if you’re looking for something a bit more cultural, the Ghibli Museum and Odaiba are great for families. The city is also full of interactive museums to capture attention, while Tokyo Disneyland, Kamakura and Nikkō – which are packed with nature and history – are all just a short drive away. The best time to go is in the summer as the weather if favourable, but June can be rather wet, with average rainfall hitting 181mm. The flight time can be tricky with small children – at 11.5 hours from London, but to experience the unique culture – both modem and traditional – is worth the long flight.

Reserva Monteverde, Costa Rica

Reserva Monteverde, Costa Rica

A world-leading eco and adventure tourist location, Reserva Monteverde is perfect for adventurous families. Around half of the protected area is conserved as the Bosque Eternal de los Niños (Children’s Eternal Rainforest), and provides large areas of lush rainforest, cloudforest, evergreen forest, and of course mountains for tourists to adventure through. Offering incredible wildlife-spotting opportunities, a trip here is one the family will likely never forget. Boasting a tropical climate, the weather can be unsteady, but the average temperature year-round is over 20°C, with the warmest months being between March and May. Flights to San Jose lie at around 11 hours.

Florida, USA

Florida, USA

With flight times of around 8.5 hours, Orlando is the ultimate destination for families. Plenty to keep kids of all ages occupied in the state, whatever time of year you go, you’ll see the sun. Obviously we all know how exciting Orlando is with its plethora of thrilling theme parks and water parks, but there’s much more to the Sunshine State than Orlando’s theme parks. There’s fantastic beaches, such as Daytona Beach for a traditional seaside day, the subtropical wonderland of the Everglades National Park, the Crystal River in Tampa Bay where you can swim with manatees, and of course Kennedy Space Centre for the an out of this world experience.

Toronto, Canada

Toronto, Canada

Awash with kid-friendly activities, Toronto is the perfect destination for families. The striking skyline that’s become iconic around the world will leave kids of all ages in awe, while the streetcars that dart around town provide a fab holiday treat. There’s also the famous CN Tower to explore to those who love heights and the Royal Ontario Museum, which features native Canadian headdresses and dinosaur bones. If this isn’t enough, Toronto Islands are a short ferry ride away, while the bucket-list inducing Niagara Falls lie just to the north. The summers are humid and the winters are icy cold in Toronto, so choose your time wisely depending on what you’re after. Flight times are less than many expect, with flights from London arriving in Toronto in less than 8 hours.

Have any of these exciting destinations inspired your family holiday this year?
