Top 5 Easter Holiday Trips Around the UK

Posted on April 04 2017

The Easter holidays can often leave parents struggling for inspiration. With the great British weather not one to be relied upon, planning ahead can be tricky. But it doesn’t have to be. There’s plenty of things you and your children can get up to over the Easter break to help break up the long two week stint.

Head to London for a day or two

Tower Of London

The buzzing capital has plenty of activities going off over Easter to keep children entertained – and away from the chocolate. Between Thursday 13th and Sunday 16th of April a fleet of over 30 grand vessels will sail along the Greenwich and Woolwich riverfronts at the Tall Ships Regatta, while Kids can find themselves smack bang in the middle of Jurassic Park between Saturday 1st and Monday 17th April with more than 30 life-size models embark on Osterley Park. For something different, the Southbank Centre has a number of activities taking place between Saturday 1st and Monday 17th April at the Urban Festival.

Rent a narrowboat in Norfolk

Narrow boat

For something a bit different, narrowboats offer a great family-friendly alternative to traditional hotels and rented apartments.  Something the whole family can get involved in, it can be a real educational experience for younger kids, whereas older children can help out when it comes to driving the boat. The Norfolk Broads is great for animal-lovers, with Norwich having plenty for kids to do, including a magical Down The Rabbit Hole event on Friday 14th April.

Waterways Holidays offers dedicated boat trips for families so can take away the stresses of organising this quirky getaway way for you.

Hire a log cabin in Snowdonia

Snowdonia

Snowdonia is always packed full of great events – and Easter is no different. But if you want to make it truly unique, rent one of the incredible log cabins on offer to get the great outdoors experience, with a little more comfort. From Friday 14th to Monday 17th April is Easter Weekend. There’s a Mad Hatter’s Party in Portmeirion’s picturesque piazza, complete with fancy dress, magic potions and a fairy-tale afternoon tea, while a Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt will take place in nearby Plas yn Rhiw between Friday 14th and Sunday 16th April.

Get beneath the stars in the National Forest

Forrest

If you’re looking to brave the weather, you could dig out your tent and head to the National Forest. There’s loads of camping sites for families, with all the amenities you could ask for. In Swadlincote, Derbyshire, three fun-packed weeks of activities will be taking place during the Forest’s Easter Half Term Fun between Saturday 1st and Sunday 23rd April. Alternatively you could try Family Bushcraft Day on Thursday 20th April in Coalville, Leicestershire.

Embrace your inner child and hire a wigwam in Stirling

Wigwam

Wigwams are perfect for families who don’t fancy sleeping under nylon quite yet. Cosy, warm and truly unique, they offer excitement for the whole family. Mains Farm Wigwams is a child-friendly site that has all the mod cons, but with a rustic edge. There’s an onsite play area for under 5s, and is located within close range of a number of amenities. On the doorstep, you’ll also find The Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway & Museum of Scottish Railways and Falkirk’s annual pirates and princesses’ parade – as well as a whole host of special Easter-themed activities! And what’s more, Away with the Kids can sort it all out for you!
