5 unique days out in the UK

Posted on June 08 2018

When it comes to planning a day out with the kids, there are always a few fail-safe options. It might be the local park, swimming pool or nature spot. Sometimes, however, you want to do something that’s a little different. Something outside the box that will create lasting memories.

Happily, the UK is full of unique, fun experiences that are enjoyable not only for the kids, but also for parents. Let’s take a look at five of the best.

iFLY Indoor Skydiving

If you’re looking for something totally different that parents and children alike will remember, iFLY Indoor Skydiving is a good bet. With locations in Milton Keynes, Manchester and Basingstoke, iFLY is an amazing experience and totally unlike anything else.

This day out offers the thrill and wonder of floating in mid-air, without the actual terror of having to jump out of a plane. The expert instructors are equally as skilled helping adults and children find their wings and they cater for ages three and up. Prices start at £29.99 per-person for the ‘iFLY Kick-Start Super Saver’ offering, but there are also group deals, VR-integrated experiences and various special offers across the year for families.

RSPB Nature Discovery Centre

Nestled in the lovely environs of Thatcham, Berkshire, the RSPB Nature Discovery Centre is a great place to get your kids amidst nature. Offering a hands-on experience for kids, with equipment and displays designed to pique young visitors interest, it’s a wonderful way to get kids involved and interested in local wildlife and nature.

It’s entirely free, but there are charges for some activities on-site. It’s open every day from 10.30am and closed at 5pm.

Planet Bounce

Founded in 2015, Nottingham’s Planet Bounce is a huge space full of, you guessed it, bouncy and gravity-defying terrain. The place really is a dream come true for kids who have inexhaustible amounts of energy and love to play with wild abandon.

The venue offers a safe, child-aware environment that is all about enabling your little ones to jump, bounce and generally go mad. The popular ‘Jump’ experience is £9.99 booked online and £11.99 on the day for an hour’s worth of access to the main inflatable area. There are also options for the younger tots in your family and all prices are available on their website.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour

If your kids – or, indeed, yourself – are big fans of Harry Potter then the Warner Bros. Studio Tour is the day out for you. If you’ve ever wanted to see the real Great Hall, Gryffindor common room or the Hogwart’s steam engine, it’s all here. It’s a comprehensive, enchanting trip into the magic behind the films and will probably take a good few hours to get around.

A child’s ticket – 5-15 years old – is £33 and a standard adult ticket is £41. All prices and saver deals are available on site. The London-based attraction is open during summer from 9am, with final tours starting at 7pm.

Eden Project

World famous and unbelievably beautiful, Eden Project is perfect if you want to show your kids how something amazing can come from nothing. Set on the site of a former clay pit, Eden Project features two biomes that replicate environments and climates from around the world.

It’s the only way to see and feel what a rainforest is like without actually going to one. It’s £27.50 for a full price adult ticket and £14 for children  ages 5-16. The under fours can get in for free and there’s also a family ticket option – covering two adults and two children – for £71.
